Hansil Shah

Our principal optometrist, who qualified in 2003 after completing his training at Ipswich Hospital, has had a distinguished career in the field of optometry. Initially, he gained invaluable experience working at various opticians, where he developed a comprehensive understanding of how different practices operate. Eventually, he found his true calling in the independent sector. Here, he discovered the freedom to provide superior patient care, free from the sales pressures commonly found in larger chains.

Over the years, he has pursued further professional development, completing his diplomas in glaucoma and medical retina. He is also MECS qualified and holds accreditations for glaucoma refinement, cataract assessments, and post-cataract checks. His expertise extends to myopia control and the management of dry eyes, areas in which he is particularly passionate.

Outside of his professional life, he is a dedicated family man who enjoys spending quality time with his children. He also engages in a variety of hobbies, including playing 7-a-side football, photography, and traveling. These activities help him maintain a well-rounded and fulfilling lifestyle, complementing his commitment to excellence in optometry.

Role: Optical Assistant

Qualifications: Optical Assistant Level 2

My journey in the optical industry began in late 2021, when I started as an optical assistant apprentice. Over the next two years, I immersed myself in learning every aspect of the role — from understanding lenses and frames to providing excellent patient care. This hands-on experience not only gave me the technical skills I needed, but also taught me the importance of creating a welcoming and supportive environment for everyone who visits our practice.

After achieving my Optical Assistant Level 2 qualification, I was delighted to continue my career with the same team where I trained. For me, being an optical assistant isn’t just about ensuring patients get the right glasses or contact lenses — it’s about listening to their needs, answering their questions, and helping them feel confident and cared for every step of the way. I take pride in making each appointment a pleasant and reassuring experience, whether it’s for a first-time visitor or a familiar face returning for their regular check-up.

Outside of work, I enjoy staying active by playing football and going to the gym. I’m also passionate about meeting new people and experiencing different cultures, which is why I’m proud to be fluent in both English and Turkish. These interests keep me energised and help me bring a positive, friendly approach to my work every day.

Role: Optical Assistant

With over 15 years of experience in the optical industry, I’ve built my career around a genuine passion for helping people see — and feel — their best. I take great pride in providing exceptional customer service, from offering personalised advice to guiding customers through their eyewear choices with care and attention. Over the years, I’ve learned that it’s not just about finding the right lenses or frames, but about building trust, listening to each customer’s needs, and making sure they leave feeling valued, informed, and confident.

I believe that a friendly, approachable atmosphere can make all the difference, and I strive to create that experience for every person who walks through our doors. Many of our customers have become familiar faces over the years, and those ongoing relationships are one of the most rewarding parts of my work.

Outside of work, I enjoy exploring new places through travel, taking leisurely walks that let me slow down and appreciate the world around me, and getting lost in a great book. These hobbies keep me refreshed, inspired, and ready to bring my best to each day.
